My First Cake Plow

June 29th, 2007 by ScottK | No Comments | Filed in My Life

It seems working for PayPerPost is not for the faint at heart. Let’s see the first week I had to introduce myself to a bunch of people and in front of a camera no less. Absolutely no pressure there since it was going to be shown to the world; right. At the end of the month I had to give a Mexican yell and take a shot in front of the same, maybe not so strange people.

Last month in May was my birthday, May 5, and the celebration for that day was purely Cinco de Mayo but I somehow fell through the cracks at month end when I was supposed to do my cake plow for having a birthday in May. Caught up with me though with a slip of the tongue by another developer. Damn!!!

So here it is the at the month of June and our company pot luck was today. Since I truly could not be invisible, and believe me I tried, as cake was brought out for me. Rather a huge friggin slice of one. Oh well at least I didn’t have to do the Mexican yell. I hope you enjoy!!!

Where did the week go?

Man it’s been a wild trip the past two weeks. Just alone work, the commute and school kept me pinned down to late nights and early rising. To top it off we also moved last weekend. If you could bank time I would be in debt.

Luckily this is week four in school with one more week to go! This week’s subject is marketing and advertising. I found out last night that if I take the approach of the subject and apply my experience with internet marketing/advertising strategies I had quite a lot to say. I’ll definitely be glad to be out of this class though.

The new house is awesome! Now every kid has a room, Rai and I have three, plus Rai gets an office and I have my own office. Coincidently my office is the furthest from the main living areas; something to do with how loud I play my music ;) . Doesn’t figure. Still lot’s of unpacking to do though so more withdrawls from the time bank.

Ho Hum Sunday

It’s one of those blah days today. I can’t seem to get excited about anything to do so I thought it was time to update the blog with a week in review. It really has been a long week so I can certainly dump a few things here.

I started the second week of classes this week. Since I’ve never posted about it, I’m taking IT classes at the University of Phoenix online to receive my Bachelors degree. Each class term is five weeks long and you definately have to concentrate and organize your time to fulfill the homework and attendance policies each week.

The class this time is Business Management. Not really into it as I have no interest in it. Oh well it’s good information and I’ll get through it as usual. I checked today and my next class is Web I and that I can really get into.

At PPP I’ve been working on the fanschwiddle project as described by Pete http://blog.payperpost.com/2007/04/super-cool-amazing-new-feature.html and it’s coming along nicely. Of course we thought we (three other developers on this) were done until we presented to Ted. He added some new functionalities so it’s back to being half way done. All very good new additions and one that I can really appriciate as well.

I didn’t really want to start a new widget until the Yahoo one was released but that one is currently in revision 3 of graphics and I couldn’t work on it this weekend so I decided to take the chance and start a WordPress plug-in for the posties. Since I’ve never built a plug in yet for WP it all came together unbelievably quick in two days. It’s also really awesome for running the affiliate tools for posties.

I sent an email to Ted asking permission to release the plug in. Since I’m doing these on my time and not being paid by PPP I probably could release without permission. But because I do work for PPP I probably should ask for permission. I’ll err on the side of not getting my butt in the slinger. :)

Other than that I just looked at furniture prices as we are moving this week with the brunt of it next weekend. Continued to re-factor some code for another web app I’m running. Did some homework.
