I have certainly had the pleasure of experiencing many different cultures and careers. Having lived in United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia as well as the United States has taught me to be open to other cultures and peoples beliefs. From a metal fabricator to a programming contractor, I have learned that hard work and perseverance pays off.

Working as a maintenance shift lead for an automotive supply manufacture I was also the lead electrical engineer. As the automation engineer I was charged with designing equipment control systems for prototype or retro-fitting production equipment. These designs lied heavily on Programmable Logic Control (PLC) processors. Programmable logic control programming is mainly bit logic, if these conditions are true then set output to true.

System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) was another integral part in order to remotely monitor and report on production processes. Besides the fact that production processes across several pieces of equipment need to networked in order to run successfully SCADA allows for remotely monitoring and controlling changes in the process. With the understanding of different networking protocols that SCADA presented I was able to present ideas on how entire processes, or even factories, could be automated for an increase in productivity.

A title without a degree, I decided to go ahead and get a degree in electrical engineering. I knew the electronic fundamentals and because of my work with automation I wanted to go ahead and pursue a degree in electrical engineering. Not that I didn’t enjoy being an automation engineer, metal fabricator, factory electrician, lead maintenance tech, and shift lead, all at the same time wasn’t fun.

A requisite of gaining an electrical engineering degree was to take programming classes. My first class was for C programming. While it certainly took me a bit to gain an understanding of how computer programs are written I immediately realized that it was programming that I enjoyed and not the automation aspect of what I was doing. I really enjoyed the challenges of PLC programming and the ability to interface with equipment through SCADA to present information I immediately switch my education to Computer Science.

At work I started working with Visual Basic and asp for Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), but on my time I was working with PHP and heavily involved with JavaScript. Certainly I did my bout with building websites for friends and relatives, but my desires started to lead me into understanding Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM).

Quite a bit of my work surrounded e-commerce. Originally with osCommerce and modifying that software for individual online stores, I started to deliver e-commerce web sites to clients. At this time I was able to guide them in not only the operation of their stores but also SEO practices to help them gain search engine ranking.

To present I am able to work with many languages and frameworks involved in web development. And my belief in perseverance still pays off. I have had the opportunity to work with many clients and corporation to projects involving many programming challenges. Along with continuing to work with clients I am also proud to develop open source projects for the continued development of all programmers.
