The other day I was introduced to a web application called eyeOS and I didn’t get a chance to play with it until this weekend. Now that I have finally gotten to kick the tires on it I have found that it is a great program. Especially since I work off three different computers at times.
eyeOS is a web based operating system. It very much looks and feels like one as well. You have a desktop with a traditional file system complete with a trash folder. It has games, applications, a browser, and two text editors. What is really good for me is that files can up loaded and then down loaded as well.
Installation is extremely easy in that you don’t need a database! All that is required is the uploading of three files and an img folder. Set the permissions to full read/write/execute and proceed to the install.php file. It will as for the root user password and complete the install. You’re done. Granted be sure to log in as the root and create yourself as a user to avoid using the root account all the time.
I really like this program and I recommend that anyone who needs a central repository give this a try.
